What is Silk Mohair?
Silk Mohair is a highly luxurious yarn, made from some of the finest natural fibers - mohair wool from Mohair goats and silk. Mohair wool is called a diamond fiber because of its unique qualities and ability to keep you warm even though it's lighter than other types of wool. Silk is also a very old natural fiber, long adored in textile production for its lightness and beautiful shine. Combined these two luxury fibers create a very light and extremely soft yarn, with a beautiful, characteristic shine. Silk Mohair can be knit on its own, and is as such often used for soft and light shawls, or it can be combined with other yarns to add a touch of softness and shine.
Silk Mohair is produced by different brands with similar but slightly different formulas. Most Silk Mohair yarns contains a majority of Mohair, between 70 % and 75 %, and a smaller fraction of Silk, i.e. the remaining 25 % to 30 %. Silk Mohair is a very thin and light yarn, with a yardage of app. 230 yards / 210 meters per 25 g.
