Handknitted – just not by me

Handknitted – just not by me - Önling INT

At Önling we all love to knit - with myself being one of the few exceptions!

It's not that I cannot see how beautiful and unique products one can get from knitting, or how much joy it gives to work the knitting needles - but simply a realization that I do not have the time, nor the patience, to start learning a whole new skill. Unfortunately, because who would not like to be able to magically produce a beautiful, modern sweater like Magnum, or a nice and light summer knit like Silke - or one of the many other sweaters and cardigans, that I see my colleagues knit?

My focus has always been on getting Önling positioned as a sustainable clothing company specializing in knitwear. First off, the knit we designed was machine knitted by a supplier to sell as finished knitwear. Since then, the idea that we would produce our own yarn grew, as we could see that our Italian yarn manufacturer was able to deliver a uniquely soft and delicious yarn. Ever since, the part of Önling's business that has to do with handknitting, has grown more and more and my everyday life has slowly been filled with knitting terms, knitting patterns, and balls of yarn in all the colors of the rainbow!

own hand-knitted Magnum or Silke "

Several times a week, when we host knitting salons, our showroom is filled with ladies who knit and chat. Here I can see and hear how much joy and pride it brings you to produce a lovely and unique product with your own hands - and how much fun you have in the process.

However, I have come to the realization that I will never reach a level, where I can knit anything more than a crooked dish cloth - but it does not change the fact, that I would really, really like to own a unique hand-knitted sweater in the softest yarn and beautiful colors handpicked by me. I too want the feeling of owning something that has a lot of time and love put into it, which is made specifically for me.

Assuming that I am not the only person who feels this way, we are now testing a new product range at Önling, called Handknitted in DK. In short, this is a service where you as a non-knitter can pay a skilled handknitter to make a hand-knitted sweater - knitted specifically for you. The handknitters we use are all located around Denmark, and we already use these to knit and test all our own knitting designs before they are converted into the knitting patterns, that we sell. So they are guaranteed skilled and proficient!

At first glance, the price of a hand-knitted sweater is not cheap. But please just think about the fact that it takes a good knitter between 50-100 hours to knit a sweater for you - and look at the price again through those glasses! Önling and the handknitter will control the entire process after you choose design, yarn, color and size - all you have to do is sit back and wait for about 4 weeks on the finished result.

It makes me so excited that I can now become the happy owner of my very own hand-knitted Magnum or Silke - I just have to decide which one I want to start with… No matter what, I'm sure it will be my new favorite!
