Knitting kit for Hello Friend Vest by Leslie Friend in Önling No 1
The Hello Friend Vest was born a couple of years ago when I was recovering from a wrist surgery and needed something comforting in not only the knitting but the finished piece as well. A knit vest is a perfect project to give you the feeling of accomplishment in less time than knitting an entire sweater. Throw it on over your favorite t-shirt in the spring and fall and your favorite blouse or long sleeve shirt/turtleneck in the winter. It fits nicely under a blazer or coat and adds just that little extra layer to keep you warm.
Language: The pattern is available in English
The knitting kit contains: Yarn for the selected size and color and a digital pattern
The pattern is a PDF file. Immediately after purchase you will be able to download the pattern directly from the purchase confirmation page. You will also receive an e-mail with a link to your pattern, and the pattern will be available here at the site via your personal account - so remember to create an account :-) Read more about digital knitting patterns here.

Recommended needles

4.5 mm / US 7 x 60 and 80 cm / 24 and 32 inch circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge)
Tip: I like to use interchangeable needles when working in stockinette stitch as my purl stitches are looser than my knit stitches. So I purl with a 4 mm / US 6 and knit with a 4.5 mm / US 7
Notions
Stitch holders or waste yarn
4 removable stitch markers (one different as it will be the BOR marker)
Tapestry needle
Tape measure
Scissors
Gauge: 21 sts and 28 rows to 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches measured over stockinette stitch using 4.5 mm / US 7 needles, measured after blocking.
Procedure
Hello Friend is worked top down on 4.5 mm / US 7 needles. First the top of the back is worked flat while shaping the shoulders and then the armholes. The back stitches are placed on hold while the front is worked. Stitches are then picked up on either side of the back shoulders while shaping the front neckline and then armholes. The two pieces are then joined to begin working in the round. A purl stitch between the front and the back pieces adds the illusion of a side seam.
Please Note:
The price of the yarn kit is calculated based on the amount of yarn included, which is the amount we have used to knit the design according to the above measurements. Should you need more yarn, additional yarn can be purchased at regular prices by placing an order and state lot number in the comment box at checkout. All designs have been thoroughly calculated and tested.
ABOUT PATTERNS FROM ÖNLING
In 95% of all kits from Önling, you get a digital pattern and yarn when you buy a knitting kit. Read more about how to get hold of your digital knitting pattern here.
In some cases, however, you will not receive a pattern as part of your order:
If you buy a Yarn kit, you will only receive yarn for the design in question. Yarn kits are only sold for selected designs from external designers, where we do not have the right to sell the pattern. When a kit is sold without pattern, you can always see it in the header, which will say (excl pattern) in the header.
In very few cases, however, we provide a printed pattern rather than a digital one:
- For a select, few designs from PetiteKnit, we will add a printed pattern to the parcel - but for most PetiteKnit designs, you will not receive a pattern, as they are mainly sold as yarn kits (excl pattern). In these cases you will always be able to see it in the header, where it says (excl pattern).
Wool can last for years, but it requires good care. Washing is tough on your woolen garments and in general wool needs to be washed much less than other materials as it has a self-cleaning effect.
