Isling Icelandic sweater from Önling, No 1 knitting kit
The Isling Sweater has been inspired by the Nordic winter, nature, sea, and sand dunes, as well as the need for a warm and comfortable sweater. Last Christmas I was in my summer house in North Jutland and desperately needed an ISLING.
IS (Danish for ’ice’), wind, snow, storm, and LING = my favorite, a darling. By combining the two words the name of the sweater came to me. This is my all-time warm and cozy sweater that I love to wear. The first one I made is huge and oversize, intended for wearing on top of everything else as an outer garment. I have worn it all winter, every morning after my winter swim. First, I would stand on it, on top of a small towel, in the ‘bath house’, to keep my feet warm, and then I would put it on. The yarn used for the sweater is our own sustainable Önling No 1, which is perfect for Icelandic sweaters and fair isle patterns. The design is somewhat oversize, with approx. 10 cm / 4 inches of positive ease, to leave room for having several layers of clothing underneath when you go outside. If you want a tighter fit, you can make it one size smaller.

ABOUT PATTERNS FROM ÖNLING
In 95% of all kits from Önling, you get a digital pattern and yarn when you buy a kit. Read more about how to get hold of your digital knitting pattern here.
In very few cases, however, we provide a printed pattern rather than a digital one:
- When you buy a kit for ALL designs from PetiteKnit's, you will receive a printed, pattern together with your yarn, as we are unfortunately not allowed to sell Petite Knits' patterns digitally.
- When you buy a kit for a design from selected books (e.g. Helga Isager), you sometimes have to buy the book separately, in cases where the patterns are not released to be sold separately. It will always be clearly described in the product title, with for example "xx kit, excluding pattern", when the pattern is not included.
- All patterns from Isager are delivered as a printed pattern, as we do not have access to sell these digitally. You will receive your pattern along with your yarn shipment.
Wool can last for years, but it requires good care. Washing is tough on your woolen garments and in general wool needs to be washed much less than other materials as it has a self-cleaning effect.
