Knitting pattern for Skagen cardigan, a feminine and classic summer cardigan

Skagen Cardigan is our feminine summer cardigan, created in collaboration with the trendy knitting magazine, Laine's Magazine. Katrine Hannibal - the creative design director at Önling - has designed the Skagen Cardigan, which was selected as one of many designs, to be shown in Laine's magazine No 14 (Spring 2022).

The design is inspired by the raw dunes, mare straw and the elongated, wide beaches in Skagen, where Katrine has her holiday home. It is designed with the long, bright summer evenings in mind, where you pull out your favorite cardigan to be able to sit outside for an hour longer and enjoy the light and the long summer evening. The ambition is for Skagen to become the one cardigan that you take with you on holiday, because it is your absolute favorite.

The design is slightly tight-fitting and short, with half-length sleeves, to fit nicely over your top, dress, or skirt. An overall understated, uniquely simple design.

You can work Skagen Cardigan in Önling no 2 for a soft, light and feminine result or you can work it in Önling no 16 for a more rustic tweed look.

Gauge: 25 sts x 50 rows to 4″ / 10 cm on US 4 / 3.5 mm needles in garter stitch, after blocking.

Procedure: The cardigan is worked back and forth in garter stitch, from the top down, to make adjusting the length of both body and sleeves easy. Italian Cast-On is used to make a nice, stretchy neck edge, and add a small tuck before working the main body, starting with short rows over neck, shoulders, and sleeves to ensure a perfect fit of the neckline. The yoke is worked with raglan increases, and the yoke stitches are then divided into body and sleeves, which are finished separately and rounded off with tucks inside the ‘twisted’ 1 x 1 rib stitch cuffs and hems.

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS

Wool can last for years, but it requires good care. Washing is tough on your woolen garments and in general wool needs to be washed much less than other materials as it has a self-cleaning effect.

Washing instructions for your knitwear
Wool can last for years, but it requires good care. Washing is tough on your woolen garments and in general wool needs to be washed much less than other materials as it has a self-cleaning effect. Often it is enough to hang your woolen sweater / garment outside in the humid weather or bring it with you into the bathroom, when you take a long, hot shower - the steam will often be enough to freshen it up it and remove any unwanted odors.

Specifically for knitwear knitted in Önling's Everyday Kit
Neither Önling No 12 nor No 13, is pre-washed when you receive it on cones. You get the best result if you soak your finished knitted garment in lukewarm water for approx. 2 hours. Then wash the garment as you would otherwise with washing detergent for wool, either by hand or on a wool program in your washing machine. Dry it by laying it flat.

Specifically for knitwear knitted in Önling's Silk kit
As the Silk Kit from Önling contains 3 different qualities (linen, wool and silk), we recommend that you always wash your silk sweater / garment by hand, to avoid it changing shape or appearance during wash. The three qualities will react differently to water, temperatures, etc. Önling can not take responsibility for the result if you wash your silk sweater in the washing machine. Your garment made from the silk kit should NOT be spun or tumble dried. Instead, dry it by laying it flat.
