Knitting pattern for Knitting is my therapy bandana

Knitting can have many purposes. To a stressed or troubled brain, it may serve as a haven, easy to navigate in and leaving little space for thoughts running out of control. Knitting is a pleasure when it does not stress the brain too much. For example, it can be stressful continuously having to change focus between pattern and knitting, concentrating too much on gauge, or worrying whether your knitting is ’good enough’.

The Knitting is my therapy bandana has been designed and developed for knitters who need an intuitive knitting project; to this end, the pattern uses slightly longer descriptions.

The pattern offers 2 different versions: one with wide structure stripes and another one with a seed stitch pattern.

The pattern is a PDF file. Immediately after purchase you will be able to download the pattern directly from the purchase confirmation page. You will also receive an e-mail with a link to your pattern, and the pattern will be available here at the site via your personal account - so remember to create an account :-) Read more about digital knitting patterns here.

Designed by Katrine Hannibal for Önling.

Size: One size.

Measurements:
Structure striped bandana: approx. 17x120 cm / 7x47 inches.
Rice stitch bandana: approx. 15x100 cm / 6x40 inches.

Both measured after washing, blocking, and drying

Materials: 50 g Önling No. 15, 100 % merino uld, 175 m pr. 50 g.
Structure stripes: Pale Grey (7138) = 50 g
Seed stitch: Green (0487) = 50 g

Each version is worked all the way through with 1 strand of No 15.

Recommended needles: Recommended circular needle size 4 mm / US 6, 80 cm / 32 inches long

Gauge: Seed stitch (alternately k over p and p over k) before washing: 20 sts x 38 rows of seed stitch on needle size 4 mm / US 6 = 10x10 cm / 4x4 inches.

Structure stripes (3 rows stockinette from the right side, 3 rows stockinette from the wrong side) before washing: 19 sts x 30 rows of stripes on needle size 4 mm / US 6 = 10x10 cm / 4x4 inches well stretched. Stretched height approx. 48 rows

Procedure:  The bandana is worked back and forth from one pointed end to the other with i-cord edges at both sides. Increases are worked at the beginning of rows until half the yarn has been used. Then decreases are worked in the same side until all the yarn has been used.

Washing instructions for your knitwear
Wool can last for years, but it requires good care. Washing is tough on your woolen garments and in general wool needs to be washed much less than other materials as it has a self-cleaning effect. Often it is enough to hang your woolen sweater / garment outside in the humid weather or bring it with you into the bathroom, when you take a long, hot shower - the steam will often be enough to freshen it up it and remove any unwanted odors.

Specifically for knitwear knitted in Önling's Everyday Kit
Neither Önling No 12 nor No 13, is pre-washed when you receive it on cones. You get the best result if you soak your finished knitted garment in lukewarm water for approx. 2 hours. Then wash the garment as you would otherwise with washing detergent for wool, either by hand or on a wool program in your washing machine. Dry it by laying it flat.

Specifically for knitwear knitted in Önling's Silk kit
As the Silk Kit from Önling contains 3 different qualities (linen, wool and silk), we recommend that you always wash your silk sweater / garment by hand, to avoid it changing shape or appearance during wash. The three qualities will react differently to water, temperatures, etc. Önling can not take responsibility for the result if you wash your silk sweater in the washing machine. Your garment made from the silk kit should NOT be spun or tumble dried. Instead, dry it by laying it flat.

We demand a lot from our yarn

We sell yarn under our own label - yarn that is produced in a family-run yarn mill in Italy. The yarn is produced according to organic standards and can be traced back to the individual sheep on the specific field, to ensure the welfare of the animals. All our yarn is off course mulesing-free.
