Aran Tweed is a lovely wool yarn, and perfect for winter knitting such a sweaters and cardigans knitted at large needles. We love the tweed effect with specs in different colors, as this creates a beautiful color play, and makes even simple knitting patterns look stunning.

Isager Aran Tweed can be knitted on its own, at needle size 4.5mm or 5mm. See for instance our Buster cardigan. Or it can be combined with other Isager yarns to obtain a larger needle size. Aran Tweed looks great in combination with for instance Silk Mohair and Alpaca 1.

Origin of the yarn:

Isager Aran Tweed is produced in Ireland for the Danish yarn brand Isager. Isager is a respected brand among knitters in Denmark and worldwide, due to their high quality and luxurious yarn.

The company was founded by Åse Lund Jensen, who contributed greatly to the art of knitting with her yarns and knit designs. Today Isager is owned by Marianne Isager and her daughter Helga Isager, who continue to inspire knitters through their knitting books.

Isager today produce around different 20 types of yarn, all of which are of high quality and lovely to work with. See more Isager Yarn here.

Washing instructions:

We recommend hand washing your Aran Tweed.

Wool does not require washing as often as other textiles, and it is therefore sustainable in daily use as it saves resources from washing. If your wool clothes need “freshing up” hanging it outside will often be sufficient.

Washing instructions for your knitwear
Wool can last for years, but it requires good care. Washing is tough on your woolen garments and in general wool needs to be washed much less than other materials as it has a self-cleaning effect. Often it is enough to hang your woolen sweater / garment outside in the humid weather or bring it with you into the bathroom, when you take a long, hot shower - the steam will often be enough to freshen it up it and remove any unwanted odors.

Specifically for knitwear knitted in Önling's Everyday Kit
Neither Önling No 12 nor No 13, is pre-washed when you receive it on cones. You get the best result if you soak your finished knitted garment in lukewarm water for approx. 2 hours. Then wash the garment as you would otherwise with washing detergent for wool, either by hand or on a wool program in your washing machine. Dry it by laying it flat.

Specifically for knitwear knitted in Önling's Silk kit
As the Silk Kit from Önling contains 3 different qualities (linen, wool and silk), we recommend that you always wash your silk sweater / garment by hand, to avoid it changing shape or appearance during wash. The three qualities will react differently to water, temperatures, etc. Önling can not take responsibility for the result if you wash your silk sweater in the washing machine. Your garment made from the silk kit should NOT be spun or tumble dried. Instead, dry it by laying it flat.

We demand a lot from our yarn

We sell yarn under our own label - yarn that is produced in a family-run yarn mill in Italy. The yarn is produced according to organic standards and can be traced back to the individual sheep on the specific field, to ensure the welfare of the animals. All our yarn is off course mulesing-free.
